  • Correct all spelling, grammar, syntax, capitalization, punctuation, abbreviation, and hyphenation errors and inconsistencies
  • Verify consistency between cross-references; contents page with chapters; numbering of footnotes, endnotes, tables, figures, or illustrations (if any)
  • Check for consistency between footnotes, endnotes, and/or in-text citations and bibliography or reference list (if any)
  • Ensure bibliography or reference list is formatted properly according to the appropriate style guide
  • Note where citations are necessary and where permission to reprint may be necessary
  • Point out any potentially libelous information
  • Arrange front and back matter in appropriate order
